Permit Requirements
The following permits are required by the Department of Public Works. Follow the links below to fill out a permit application for the type of work you plan to do. Please note, these are only applications. Once submitted someone from the Department will reach out to you to complete the permit process.
- Driveway / Curb-Cut Permit - A permit must be obtained from this office for all driveways and curb-cuts entering a street - $75 Fee
- Sanitary Sewer Permit - A permit must be obtained from this office for all new sewer connections and repairs:
- Commercial and Industrial Sewer Permit - Please read OSHA Sub Part P 520 CMR 14
- Mixed Business/Residence - $550, plus $275 each additional unit
- Hotel/Motel - $550, plus $100 each additional unit
- Commercial / Industrial Buildings - $0.10 per sq. ft. of floor area or $50 per 100 gallons per day average flow, whichever is greater (minimum fee of $550)
- Residential Sewer Permit - Please read OSHA Sub Part P 520 CMR 14
- Single Family - $550
- Two Family - $550 each unit
- Multiple Family - $550 each unit
- Sewer Repair Permit (This application should be used for Residential or Commercial repairs) - $275 Fee
- New connections to replace existing connections - 50% of the applicable above-stated charge
- Commercial and Industrial Sewer Permit - Please read OSHA Sub Part P 520 CMR 14
- Storm Water Drain Connection Permit - A permit must be obtained from this office for all connections made to the city’s storm water drain system - $150 Fee
- Street Excavation / Obstruction Permit - A permit must be obtained from this office for any opening or obstruction made in a city roadway or sidewalk. $150 Fee. Please read OSHA Sub Part P 520 CMR 14
- Tree Removal Permit - A permit must be obtained from this office for any removal, cutting, pruning, or trimming of any trees within the public right-of-way. Please note: There is a $100 non-refundable fee involved with the press release of the public hearing regarding a tree removal. This is the responsibility of the party planning to have the tree removed.
- Trench Permit - A permit must be obtained from this office for any trench work. A $50 fee is required if working in tree belt. Please read OSHA Sub Part P 520 CMR 14
- Banner Permit - A permit must be obtained from this office to place or erect fixtures, banners, or structures on city street or sidewalks - $50 filing fee
